The pipe lines ranged from 4" to 6" in width and averaged 1,200 feet in length and have a very corrosive environment because it has waste and seawater traveling through it. The pipes would deteriorate within a year and a half of being placed in service. Some of the resulting leaks occurred in the ceilings in sleeping quarters and mess halls, so the customer knew that a long-term fix must be applied.
